Florine was born about 1919.

The 1930 US census shows Florine, age 7, living with her 33-year-old widowed mother and her sister Madeleine, age 11. Her mother worked as a servant for a family. There was also a boarder in the household, Albert Ames, who would later become her step-father.^[1]

In 1940 Florine St Louis, age 17, is living with her mother Leona age 43 and her stepfather Albert Ames age 54, at 29 Front Street in Old Town, Maine. Ames was a cook in a restaurant. In 1939, he earned $850 ($16,150 in today’s dollars) and worked 44 weeks of the year. In the household was also a step granddaughter Gloria Tedd age 3. Florine was a cementer in a moccasin factory. ^[2]

She married Ralph K. Macdonald on 07 March 1941.^[3]
